An Impressive Year for a Long-Standing Jacques Whitford Employee

2007 was an outstanding year for one of Jacques Whitford's longest standing employees. Arun Valsangkar received four awards of distinction for his remarkable work and numerous contributions to the field of engineering. The awarding institutions include the University of New Brunswick, Cambridge University, the Canadian Geotechnical Society and the Engineering Institute of Canada.

May 2007 - By-Fellowship of Churchill College, Cambridge University
April 2007 - Merit Award, University of New Brunswick

Dr. Arun Valsangkar is a professor at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) where he has been recognized more than once for his excellence in teaching skills, including receiving the A.P. Stuart Award of Excellence in Teaching. He has also distinguished himself with his research in soil-structure interaction (foundations, buried pipes, and embankments), and in geotechnical infrastructure design and analysis which resulted in being awarded the G. G. Meyerhof Award and the R.M. Quigley Award. He was also elected as a Fellow of both the EIC and the CSCE, and as a By Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge University, England. Prior to commencing his academic career at UNB, Dr. Valsangkar provided expert consulting advice to Jacques Whitford Ltd., which has continued to date on a part-time basis. This association with Jacques Whitford has allowed Arun to become involved in practical engineering on some of the most challenging geotechnical infrastructure projects in New Brunswick and across Canada.

Dr. Valsangkar became an Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal (CGJ) in 1992, and Editor from 2002 to 2007. The CGJ is now regarded as one of the top three geotechnical journals internationally. Arun has also served as a reviewer or editor for several conferences and symposia.
