Jacques Whitford employee nominated for 2009 ASHRAE New Faces of Engineering Program
Ali Syed of the Jacques Whitford's Saint John, New Brunswick office (Facility Assessment and Sustainable Renewal group) is one of 19 nominees for the 2009 American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) New Faces of Engineering program.
Ali was nominated in part due to his research on using wind turbines as an alternate form of energy, developing his own design modeled on German engineering. He has also performed research sponsored by Natural Resources Canada on the feasibility of photovoltaic and wind-turbine energy systems in Canada which will contribute to shaping Canada’s ongoing renewable energy policies.
The New Faces program promotes the accomplishments of young engineers by highlighting their engineering contributions and the resulting impact on public welfare. The program targets those age 30 and younger.
Later this month, ASHRAE will select its top individual and four other nominees and submit those to the National Engineers Week Committee. Information about the five will be posted on www.ASHRAE.org and published in ASHRAE Insights in January.
The top nominees from each engineering society represented on the National Engineers Week committee will appear in USA Today during National Engineers Week, February 15-21, 2009. ASHRAE’s top New Face will be posted on www.ASHRAE.org during that week.
ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of 50,000 persons. ASHRAE fulfills its mission of advancing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education.
