Environmental effects monitoring (EEM) is the process of characterizing the degree of environmental degradation associated with development-related activities.
In Canada, formal EEM programs are in place under the Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulation (PPER) and the Metal Mining Effluent Regulation (MMER), while other sectors have less formal approaches to EEM. In the U.S., EEM is also well established within a variety of federal and state regulatory regimes, and as current practice in a number of sectors. EEM can also become the basis for justification of changes to environmental management practices.
Jacques Whitford has carried out EEM programs for mining, pulp and paper, and oil and gas sector-related clients. We have conducted EEMs across Canada, including Atlantic Canada, Quebec & Ontario, the prairies, and the Territories. We also offer EEM capabilities in the U.S., and have designed EEMs for challenging energy and mining projects in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. We are experienced with legislative requirements, and have good working relationships with government agencies to facilitate the delivery of EEM programs. Our experience includes EEMs in marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments.
