Environmental Remediation - Site Assessment

Remedial System Implementation & Operation

Jacques Whitford has conducted thousands of remediation projects at airports, refineries, commercial / industrial operations, bulk plants, service stations and residential properties in Canada, the United States, and overseas.  Our project management capabilities on remediation strategies  have been put to the test on challenging sites worldwide.

Once a site has been found to be contaminated, Jacques Whitford develops Remedial Action Plans and designs remediation methods on the basis of client needs, hydrogeological site conditions, climatic conditions, contaminant type, contaminant concentration, extent of contamination, site location, government regulations and remediation costs.  Remediation projects have been conducted at sites with contamination in bedrock and soil; with soil conditions ranging from sands to silts and clays; with contamination present on the surface to 30 meters below the surface; and with free product ranging from trace levels to over four meters thick.  Jacques Whitford is a leader in the use of computerized modeling to assess contaminant migration and recovery, and in the design and optimization of  remediation systems that  achieve cost-effective cleanups with minimum site disruption.

Jacques Whitford has successfully used the following technologies alone and in combination to conduct remediation projects:

  • Excavation and off-site disposal
  • Pump and treat
  • Biopiles or land farming
  • In situ bioremediation
  • Physical, chemical and thermal processes
  • Vapor extraction and bio-venting
  • Air induction / bioslurping
  • Air sparging
  • Engineered wetlands/phytoremediation

Our scientists and engineers maintain industry-leading knowledge, and are often called upon as presenters at significant technical and industry conferences and seminars.

The true test of a remediation strategy is its successful implementation - meeting all your criteria for end-of-project contaminant levels, aesthetics, land use, cost, timeliness and community satisfaction - successfully managing your environmental risks in the most cost-effective fashion.
