The data that Jacques Whitford’s specialists obtain from  all stages of our environmental assessment  investigations are used to assess the available options for remediating or managing any identified contamination.  We have extensive experience in the identification, screening, and evaluation of remedial alternatives, and have compiled the relevant information on available technologies to execute this task efficiently.  This experience includes in situ and ex situ remediation approaches for soil and groundwater.  Jacques Whitford has developed a number of innovative, cost-effective remediation systems to address specific contamination problems that would not be effectively treated using conventional technologies.

Viable remedial or management options are typically evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

Cost including the cost of transporting equipment, waste, or replacement materials, equipment operation, engineering, treatability tests and, if applicable, pre (material pretreatment) and post (residue management) treatment costs.

Availability and feasibility of remediation alternatives due to site conditions or restrictions.

Disruption of normal activities and services at the site, with preference to approaches that minimize physical disruption, both in the short term (installation) and during long-term maintenance and monitoring.

Effectiveness of the remediation technology under the conditions present at each site.  The complexity of the operations, the documented successes and the stage of development of technology options will also be considered.

Duration of the time required for  a technology to remove the contaminants to acceptable concentrations, and the associated effect on overall remediation costs. 

Risk Reduction likely to be achieved, and the level of effort required to achieve acceptable risk minimization.

Compliance outcome of cleanup alternatives, including meeting the required level of cleanup and any permitting requirements.

Acceptance of selected alternatives to both the regulatory bodies and the local community.

Complexity of remedial options in terms of design, construction, and potential maintenance.

Regular attendance at technical seminars and conferences ensures that we keep abreast of the latest technologies and regulatory requirements, and on the leading edge of effective contaminant remedial and/or risk management solutions.
