    In April of 2005, AXYS Environmental Consulting Ltd. joined Jacques Whitford Ltd. to become the premier environmental consultants in Western Canada and the coast to coast leader in environmental planning and permitting services.

    In Western Canada — with a team of approximately 350 staff in 14 offices and an additional 50+ staff in joint venture companies — we are poised to become the unrivaled market leaders, providing consulting solutions across a broad range of disciplines and clients managing challenges in the natural and built environments.

    Jacques Whitford NAWE is the leader in the decentralized water and wastewater industry, providing innovative and ecological solutions for industrial, residential and municipal clients. JW NAWE is an award-winning ecological engineering company and is internationally recognized for developing innovative and sustainable environmental solutions. We have extensive experience in the design, construction, and operation of constructed wetland treatment systems, which provide high performing, low cost, ecologically based wastewater solutions. As a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) we are committed to the vision of creating sustainable infrastructure using ecological technologies. Founded in 1997, JW NAWE has successfully completed over 250 projects, including several international projects and work for the U.S. state Department.

    We are internationally recognized as experts in the use of engineered wetland technologies. Our commitment to innovation, research, and quality design places us at the forefront of our field. We have authored a number of United States and Canadian patents including Forced Bed Aeration™ wetland treatment reactors and a patent on Absorption Field Reclamation and Maintenance. By combining constructed wetlands with other innovative technologies, JW NAWE has increased the reach of engineered wetlands to provide simple, low cost, sustainable solutions that help people while balancing the needs of the environment.

    Our clients have won a number of awards for JW NAWE-designed wastewater systems, including the 1999 Minnesota Project of the Year Award from USDA Rural Development, 2004 USDA Rural Development Earth Day projects for both the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, and the Minnesota Environmental Initiative Award for the years 1998, 2001 and 2003. We are also the 2004 winner of the Environmental Initiative Award, Private Sector Management.

    Though JW EcoCheck, we offer a complete set of services for the operation and management of decentralized water and wastewater systems. JW EcoCheck has been involved in the decentralized water and wastewater field since 2002, and now serves over 90 decentralized facilities. We specialize in helping homeowners associations, local governmental units, and residential developers plan and manage their water and wastewater systems. We provide routine and on-call water and wastewater operation services as well as financial planning services. Our clients range from small groups (such as homeowners associations) to larger communities (townships, cities, and counties).

    The Sheltair Group is a Vancouver-based boutique consulting firm with a national scope and a 25-year history of integrated and sustainable approaches to urban planning, building engineering and resource management. Sheltair’s team of 13 highly qualified professionals has helped clients in all sectors to define and achieve their goals for sustainability through innovative and integrated solutions for the built environment. The firm’s roots are in building science, particularly energy performance and life cycle assessment. Over the years, the firm has grown and expanded its services to include all elements of the built environment, from materials, buildings and infrastructure, to neighbourhoods, communities and larger urban regions.

  • The National Testing Laboratories, a Jacques Whitford Company

    The National Testing Laboratories Limited (NTL) is a Winnipeg-based firm made up of scientific and engineering professionals who have been providing cost-effective, practical solutions for their clients since 1923.

    NTL has a reputation as Manitoba's leading full-service testing facility. NTL’s engineers and technologists offer an integrated approach and expert advice to meet the challenges of client projects. Their areas of specialization include geotechnical engineering, materials testing and inspection and environmental services.

    As a leading consultant in concrete technology, they offer services ranging from concrete mix designs and full-time quality control for new construction projects to condition surveys and non-destructive evaluation of existing structures. NTL’s staff have extensive experience in the design and quality control of bituminous paving mixtures. With an increasing demand for geotechnical engineering, materials testing and inspection and environmental services in Manitoba, NTL is in a good position for an increasing volume of work.

  • EM&I Jacques Ltd.

    EM&I Jacques Ltd. was formed in the year 2000 as a joint venture of Jacques Whitford and EM&I  to develop the Asset Integrity Management Services business in Canada. In association with ATL-JW Consulting Ltd., these joint ventures expand Jacques Whitford's capabilities into inspection, repair and maintenance services to the Canadian offshore oil & gas market, and other industrial sectors.

  • Fugro Jacques GeoSurveys Inc.

    Fugro Jacques GeoSurveys Inc. (FJG) is a Canadian company with offices in St. John’s, NL and Dartmouth, NS and a staff of over 65 survey engineers/technologists, electronics technologists, geologists, geophysicists, graphics technicians and administrative staff. FJG has supplied marine survey and marine geomatics services since the early 1980s; its portfolio of marine-related projects is unparalleled on the East Coast of Canada. In 1998, Fugro Surveys, the world’s largest marine survey company, took an equity position in the Company (formerly NJW GeoSurveys Inc.) to expand and broaden the range of services offered to the growing offshore oil and gas markets. This partnership has provided a firm foundation on which FJG has expanded its technical excellence, local resource pool and breadth of service to its Canadian and international clients.

    FMA, a heritage resources consulting firm with offices in Calgary, AB, and Fort St. John and Victoria, B.C., specializes in the western and northern regions of North America.     Toxcon Health Sciences Research Centre (HSRC) Inc. was established to meet the growing demand in Canada, the U.S., and internationally for expertise in clinical, occupational and environmental health, and toxicology. From our inception in 1984, we have been dedicated to providing high quality clinical exposure and health risk assessment, health sciences R&D, regulatory standards setting and toxicological services to our clients, thereby enabling them to bring safe, effective products to market more quickly.     I.R. Wilson Consultants was founded in 1983, and provides a full suite of consulting services in heritage-related fields including archaeology, anthropology, ethnohistory, traditional use and history. Projects range from field surveys and excavation programs, to archaeological impact assessments, archaeological overview assessments, mitigation and testing, as well as office-based overview assessments and archival research.

    Their specialized consulting services have become increasingly important across Canada; Jacques Whitford is fortunate to have I.R. Wilson’s expert staff to conduct these studies for our various projects.

    FM JWA Evergreen (Evergreen) is a joint venture between Fort McKay Environment Limited Partnership (FM) and C.E. Jones and Associates Limited/Jacques Whitford AXYS Ltd. (JWA) that provides services to the oil sands industry in the north eastern region of Alberta, while supporting the community of Fort McKay in the reclamation of their traditional lands for long-term future use. Evergreen provides the people of Fort McKay with rewarding training and employment opportunities that extend beyond the operational life of oil sands extraction operations, enabling the community to contribute to the development and implementation of world class sustainable mining practices.

    Evergreen’s primary goal is to develop a financially successful business within northeast Alberta that is sustainable for both parent companies and for the community of Fort McKay. The demand for services related to sustainable oil and gas project closure and reclamation activities is high in this target region, in particular with oil sands activities. The extensive regional knowledge and reclamation experience of the parent companies place Evergreen in an ideal position to understand the business of oil sands mining, the constraints that our clients face, and how we can ensure our clients maintain both profitability and sustainability.

    Evergreen has extensive regional expertise and understanding of the reclamation requirements and goals of the industry’s reclamation managers. Evergreen will provide a vehicle for the community of Fort McKay to increase its capacity in environmental consulting and reclamation, while contributing local human resources, knowledge and long-term experience to enhance the quality of services available to clients.
