We are experienced and highly skilled in the design, development and delivery of classroom courses. Our activity-based approach to classroom learning creates a dynamic environment that inspires employees to return for more. Our strategy for success is to blend our subject matter expertise with a process-oriented focus on producing quality classroom courses.
We have completed hundreds of courses for clients in Canada, the United States and abroad. We are flexible, and can adapt to meet the needs of the client, even if this means delivering our training on-site in a makeshift classroom. Our materials are ready to go and our instructors have experience delivering sessions in lunchrooms, on trains and even on the shop floor. Examples of our projects are included below. Fundamental Principles in Recycling Planning – In-class Course The goal of this training program is to provide learners with the knowledge and information to make key decisions related to planning, operating and implementing a municipal blue box recycling program in their municipality. To support this goal, the training program incorporates key planning decisions and best practices that relate to Blue Box recycling program in Ontario. The following topics were covered in the in-class course: - Markets
- Processing
- Collection
- Promotion and Education
- Policies
- Measuring and Monitoring
- Presenting Your Program Plan
The pre-requisite for this training is the online course. | | | | Health Canada - Green Procurement Workshop HC required the development and delivery of a 90 minute bilingual workshop to be presented during HC’s 2009 Materiel and Assets Management Workshop. Stantec Consulting Ltd’s Learning and Communications Solutions group successfully created and delivered the workshop that provided: - An overview of the CampusDirect online course entitled “Green Procurement” (C215).
- An introduction to “how to green service contracts” as described in the “Guideline for Greening Services Procurement” produced by the Office of Greening Government Operations (OGGO).
- A review of the "Green Procurement Plans" and matching "Scorecards" produced by PWGSC's Commodity Management Teams.
- A reminder of the “best practices” to incorporate environmental considerations into service contracts.
- An interactive team building exercise to introduce and review the key learning objectives.
The PowerPoint presentation included instructor’s notes to assist presenters. The workshop was designed to be highly interactive as the facilitators asked many questions to the participants regarding their current knowledge of green procurement practices. Participants were provided with keypads that allowed them to anonymously answer the questions posed by the facilitators. The data collected from the keypads was analyzed and summarized in a report provided to HC within 10 business days after the workshop delivery.
| | | | Environment Canada - Canada-Wide Stantards for Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil EC required the development and delivery of a one day (7.5 hour) classroom course in both official languages. Stantec Consulting Ltd’s Learning and Communications Solutions group successfully created and delivered the classroom training that provided:
- A general overview of the standards, the adoption of the standards across Canada, the applicability of the standards to federal sites.
- A description of the application of the standards as they relate to site assessment, baseline value selection, applicability of Tier 1, 2 and/or 3, and Tier implementation.
- Case studies from Federal contaminated sites.
- A sample problem designed to be used in conjunction with the “Canada Wide Standards for Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil: Spreadsheet Model, version 2.1 (2008)”.
- Compiled information on training methods that can be used to present this training to the custodial departments in the future by Expert Support Staff, including lesson plans for each training objective.
- Relevant updates to the 2008 version of the CWS for PHC.
Nine sessions were delivered throughout Canada between February 1st and March 31st, 2009. | | | | DFO Storage Tank Awareness Training The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) required a training program that would provide DFO employees with the tools required to understand compliance in terms of Federal Regulations and Codes with regard to petroleum products storage tanks, as well as the knowledge and understanding of proper tank management practices to prevent human health and environmental impacts. Jacques Whitford Learning and Communications Solutions developed a comprehensive training package that was suitable for classroom learning. The training package included a program agenda, teaching instructions, training program goals and objectives, and all training program content. Jacques Whitford also provided complementary learning materials such as course handouts, course evaluation sheets, related Internet links, and PowerPoint slides with discussion questions, relevant facts and figures, and images on every slide. The training program helped DFO employees understand key environmental policies and how they relate to Departmental operations. The course was delivered by in-house subject-matter experts.
| | | | DND Compliance Awareness Training The Department of National Defense required environmental compliance awareness training for new and existing Base Commanders, Hazardous Materials Officers, and Base/Wing/Formation Environmental Officers and Assistants. Jacques Whitford developed five interactive PowerPoint presentations that included slides with text, images, and accompanying speaker's notes. An Instructor's manual and a Participant's manual were also developed to provide: - A basic knowledge of legal jargon and principles involved with Part 5 and 9 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
- A solid understanding of the concepts that underlie environmental compliance.
- An understanding of what to expect in terms of rights and responsibilities in the enforcement regime.
- A consistent knowledge base to understand other environmental laws and benefits more fully from other training on specific laws, regulations or issues.
- Case studies and discussions about compliance concepts.
| | | | Interpretive Training - Harrison's Cave, Barbados The Caves of Barbados had an immediate need to train their staff in preparation for their temporary opening, scheduled in time for the World Cup Cricket events. Jacques Whitford developed a comprehensive two-week training program to meet the needs of the staff. A one week interpretative training program for all CoB staff was developed and delivered along with a second week of more detailed interpretative training for the guides and drivers. Jacques Whitford also designed an instructor’s manual, which included instructor’s notes, agendas, handouts, activities, and evaluation forms; and a participant’s manual. Participants received a certificate upon completion of the program. Additionally, a summary report was also developed that summarized the training program and detailed recommendations for further training. | | | | RCMP Environmental Responsibilities & Liabilities and Sustainable Development The RCMP’s Central Region required educational materials for RCMP facility and property managers that focused on environmental and sustainable development policies. To assist in meeting these requirements, Jacques Whitford successfully created a one day interactive PowerPoint presentation that focused on the RCMP’s environmental and sustainable development policies. The PowerPoint included instructor’s notes to assist presenters and various workplace scenarios to encourage discussion amongst the participants. The presentation increased facility/property managers’ awareness of environmental and sustainable development policies, and assisted the RCMP in their efforts to increase knowledge of work-related responsibilities. Similarly, the Participant’s Manual incorporated the information presented in the PowerPoint presentation, and many additional resources such as a glossary of key terms, and a summary of relevant Federal, Provincial, and Territorial regulations. | | | | A Call to Action - An Orientation Program on Ecological Integrity Parks Canada needed to provide training on Ecological Integrity to all 5,000 of its employees over a three-year period. To assist in meeting this requirement, Jacques Whitford developed a two-day custom course product that included a Participant's Workbook, a Trainer's Manual and Support Web site, and a series of Trainer Props e.g., CD-ROM based slide shows and background music, EI Poker Cards, EI Trivia Cards, EI Bingo, EI History Timeline Game, and so forth.
| | | | The Change Starts Here Climate Change Employee Awareness Program The Government of Canada is committed to the Kyoto Protocol and Jacques Whitford assisted by developing an ambitious employee awareness program designed to motivate action by employees. We conceptualized, branded and implemented a program called The Change Starts Here which consisted of a series of 10 tools including workshops, an online training program, a display and a Snakes and Ladders Board Game that focuses on greenhouse gas reductions. The program focuses on educating individuals on how they can reduce personal greenhouse gas emissions at work, on the road and at home.
| | | | The Green Challenge The Green Challenge is a bilingual environmental awareness and training program developed for 16 federal departments and agencies. This program provides: - Awareness presentations on environmental management targeted at senior managers.
- A Web-based learning tool designed to raise environmental awareness and motivate action by staff.
- Support tools that training staff can use when planning environmental awareness and training programs.
| | | | RCMP Groundwater Protection Program The RCMP'S Pacific Region Training Centre is located in a groundwater protection zone. The RCMP required a training program to educate RCMP staff and visitors on groundwater sensitivity. A two-hour interactive PowerPoint presentation was designed to demonstrate strategies on protecting Chilliwack's groundwater. The presentation included trivia games and other group activities, and was personalized with various PRTC environmentally-friendly activities. A supporting eight-page information booklet incorporated the information and images presented in the PowerPoint and featured a site map in the centre that highlighted best practices at the PRTC. | .jpg) | | | | An Environmental Training Program was designed for Enbridge Transportation North Group.
