Web Databases

Photo - BoxThe most powerful aspect of the Web is the ability to allow anyone to access pages from a computer hooked up to the Internet or a corporate intranet. All users are viewing the page from the same source - your server - and you need only change that information once.

In our eyes, learning involves the process of transferring knowledge to students, between students and from students back to instructors. One of the most effective means of providing access to information in a just-in-time format is the creation of Web-based databases.

Below you will find a sample of some of the Web-based databases that we have developed.

Jacques Whitford Portal to Success
The Portal to Success is an online orientation portal for new Jacques Whitford employees. It was developed with the following objectives in mind:

  • Standardize, personalize, and improve the online experience.
  • Ensure consistency in the orientation process across all offices.
  • Streamline orientation.
  • Improve the focus on the individual through initiatives focused on career development.

The Portal to Success achieved just that! It not only provides new employees with the necessary orientation material and training during their first weeks, but also provides ongoing career development support during their early years at Jacques Whitford. The Portal to Success supports multiple user profiles and provides access to content management tools from a secure login.

Carpool Connection Database
The Carpool Connection Database allows Transport Canada employees from the GTA to make carpool arrangements. Jacques Whitford created a bilingual account verification system to prevent employees from adding themselves more than once in the database. In addition, Jacques Whitford continues to host the Web site and database, and performs regular maintenance and troubleshooting services. Transport Canada employees now have access to a secure, password protected and user-friendly Carpool Connection Database.
