Fun and Learning

Not everything in life is serious so why shouldn't we have some fun from time to time? In fact, you will find that good communication and training programs rely on 'fun' as a key ingredient and means of keeping audiences engaged. The last thing that any adult learner wants to experience is something that is just like school. That is not to say that we recommend just going wild. Fun does need a point. As experienced designers of educational and communication material, we will develop a full strategic plan for you and explain exactly how 'fun' will deliver results. In the meantime, visit the pages in this section and have a little fun yourself.

Snakes and Ladders Game

Oops, you landed on the gas-guzzling truck - slide back ten spaces!
The traditional board game of 'snakes and ladders' was given a green twist for the Government of Canada's climate change program - The Change Starts Here. Information regarding the potential effects of global warming and how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at home, work, and on the road was reinforced through question cards and a game board featuring environmental images, trivia and tips.

Ecological Integrity Poker Cards

In this hand lichens are wild!
To reinforce key messages and provide some entertainment in an intensive Parks Canada Ecological Integrity training course, participants are provided with a deck of playing cards featuring images of nature. The cards are divided into suits of ecosystem components, a full suit representing a complete ecosystem. The cards are used throughout the course to illustrate key concepts, and are issued to attendees as rewards for participation and punctuality. EI poker has become wildly popular with participants trading oil slicks for animals.

Dressing for the Occasion

Everyone loves a …Raccoon?
When introducing a recycling program to a facility, it is often helpful to deliver the message directly and in person. Such an approach generates interest and enthusiasm in the program. What better way to put a happy and enthusiastic face on garbage and recycling than a mascot? A smiling garbage can and cheeky raccoon have roamed various client facilities to kick-off new or expanded office recycling initiatives, providing information to employees and answering questions.

Making the Message Palatable

A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down…
It's common knowledge, if you want people to attend a function - offer food. But have you considered using the food itself as a way to get your point across? A recent recycling program kick-off celebration featured a cake emblazoned with the Choose to Reduce logo. The target audience not only found out what was happening, they also left with a mid-morning sugar high.
